Dinner Club

February's Dinner Club was held at the home of Halina and Panos Gotsis. The theme was Italian and the food was fantastic. At Halina's request, there was a "post-Carnival" atmosphere with many people wearing masks...at least at the beginning. It was a great evening and we thank Halina and Panos for welcoming us into their home.

Pammacaristos Visit

A group of Newcomers visited Pammacaristos on February 17, '10. We were greeted warmly and served coffee, tea and cookies in the living room. Mr. Kiousis, the Director, gave us a history of Pammacaristos (in Greek) which was translated by Chrisula. Sydney and Cathy presented Mr. Kiousis with the 1500 euros that were raised from the Christmas Bazaar. We then had a tour of the residence and saw the new bedrooms that have been updated with fresh paint, brightly-colored bedspreads and new plumbing. We have requested that the money donated by Newcomers be used to upgrade more bedrooms so that more residents can be accommodated.

From the residence building we went to the workshops where students and residents worked on ceramics, carpet weaving, catering and decorating. It was a joy to see how happy everyone was and what great pride they take in the work that they do. Our tour ended in the ceramic showroom where we had an opportunity to shop. Some of us did more shopping than others (Lana!) It was a great day and will be repeated on Thursday, February 25 and again in the spring.

25th ANNIVERSARY PARTY

Daphne Reece gave us a history of Newcomers over the past 25 years and Chrisula Kolokouris gave a presentation on Pammacaristos, our current charity. We had 76 attendees including some of our regular sponsors who were honored with a rose for their commitment to Newcomers. Yiannis Vathis was also presented with a rose in thanks for his continued support of Newcomers in allowing us to use his taverna. Beautiful silver floating-heart necklaces (symbolizing the silver anniversary of Newcomers and Valentine's Day) were presented to all of the volunteers from the past year. Sydney presented all the volunteers with roses to thank them for their service. The presentation of gifts was followed by a delicious chocolate cake which was baked and donated by Robin Hionis and champagne. The champagne was a bit hit! All members were presented with a chocolate heart with "25" in icing, also made by Robin Hionis.
